CITY EXPANDS SERVICE ALERTS TO INCLUDE LANDFILL, GARBAGE COLLECTION AND SASKATOON TRANSIT

The City of Saskatoon has recently added three new Service Alerts.  Saskatoon residents can now find out about interruptions to City services for the landfill, garbage collection and Saskatoon Transit.  These Services Alerts, along with Traffic Detours, Power Outages & Updates and Saskatoon Leisure Facilities, help keep residents informed about cancellations or service disruptions so that everyone can appropriately plan their daily activities.

Service Alerts can conveniently be accessed on the City’s homepage at www.saskatoon.ca.

Since Service Alerts launched in May 2013, a number of additional improvements have been made:

·         Each Service Alert now has its own landing page within the City’s website where information is immediately expanded to include all of the relevant details, making it easier for citizens to find what they are looking for.

·         The new Service Alert landing pages means that Facebook and Twitter users will also experience improvements.  The link associated with social media posts now leads to the appropriate new landing page, as opposed to the more general Service Alerts landing page.

·         Recent upgrades to some of the online tools will help ensure that all Service Alerts are promoted faster on social media sites, such as, Twitter and Facebook.

In addition to accessing Service Alerts from the City’s website, residents can now subscribe to receive alerts on topics they wish to follow in their web browser or RSS reader application and they can share the alerts via Twitter.

For more information on Service Alerts, including FAQs and instructions about how to subscribe to an RSS Feed, visit www.saskatoon.ca/go/alerts.

Should an interruption occur that affects a large number of residents, the City will continue to use other communication tools, such as, news releases, public service announcements, social media and updates on the City’s website.  In the event of an emergency, the City’s Emergency Measures Operations will continue to be activated.
